This means that during ‘lockdown’ we carried out a full risk assessment and have put measures in place to reduce this risk of spreading Caronavirus. Of course we can not eliminate the risk completely but we have done our very best and hope that you feel safe and relaxed during your treatment. These measures include observing social distancing while in the clinic, washing your hands and wearing a face covering.
Please read the information on our FAQ page before making or attending an appointment.
We are having another go at getting to grips with social media!
We promise we are much better at acupuncture than Facebook.
Please check out our Facebook page here and help spread the word about affordable acupuncture. Helping us to help others.
‘Oh no, I couldn’t have acupuncture – that’s needles and I don’t like needles!’ I hear this a lot if I’m talking to people about acupuncture. Often when someone has gathered their courage to come for acupuncture treatment they will ask ‘Is it painful?’ or ‘Will it hurt?’
Acupuncture should NOT be painful; in fact lots of people fall asleep during treatment! The needles we use are VERY fine, much, much thinner than the needles used by nurses to take blood or give an injection. Commonly people are surprised they haven’t felt the needle going in! You can sometimes feel a dull aching in the muscle where the needle is, but it’s not usually unpleasant. There can occasionally be a sharp prick, but it lasts a fraction of a second, and isn’t anywhere as sore as jabbing yourself with a pin! Just to give you an idea of the size of the ‘pins’ we use, I’ve put 2 acupuncture needles, the small orange handled one is for ear acupuncture and the other copper handled one is for use on the body, arms, legs etc., beside a paper clip!!! If you would like any more information about acupuncture give me a ring, message, or e-mail me. I look forward to hearing from you.
Rest, relaxation and a snooze!
It seems that for a lot of people acupuncture doesn’t figure on their radar at all, if they feel ill or under the weather. If they do think about it, they are either worried because ‘its needles’ or just have no idea what to expect, and are not quite brave enough to take a leap into the unknown! There are many styles of acupuncture – yes, they all involve needles but some are more gentle than others. The style used by the acupuncturists at The Wellbeing Centre definitely falls well into the gentle group! An acupuncture treatment can be restful and relaxing!
We use reclining chairs, so you are comfortable during the treatment, and you don’t have to undress. All we ask is that you wear loose fitting clothing so that we can easily reach your legs up to the knee and arms as far as the elbows. There are acupuncture points all over the body, but the ones on your arms and legs, hands and feet are considered to be very effective, which is why we tend to use these ones particularly.
On your first visit to the clinic, we will discuss the ‘history’ of your problem and any relevant medical history, including your medication etc. This helps us decide on which acupuncture points we want to use. Depending on your problem, this ‘chat’ can last between 10 minutes and 45 minutes! We like the ‘pins’ to be in for about 30 minutes and believe it or not, about 80% of people will go to sleep during an acupuncture treatment.
For those of you who come to the clinic – yes the photo is definitely staged! It was easier to use ourselves as ‘models’ rather than asking clients if they would mind being used on Facebook post! We thought it would be good to give you an idea of the recliners and a view of the clinic.
